Each spring during commencement festivities, the Department of Statistical Science will recognize one or more doctoral students and/or postdoctoral scholars for their outstanding mentorship of individual or teams of undergraduate researchers. We believe that an outstanding mentor of undergraduate researchers will:
- provide mentoring support and guidance for undergraduate researchers, whether the students are research assistants on the mentor's team or project, or are conducting independent undergraduate research.
- hold themselves and their undergraduate research mentees to the highest ethical research standards.
- help create a culture in the department of inclusion, equity, and fairness towards undergraduate researchers.
Nominations for this recognition may be made by students, faculty, or staff. A departmental committee will select the winner(s) based upon nominations and other evidence. The nomination form linked below will authenticate your Duke identity and collect your email address as well. The deadline for student nominations for Outstanding Mentor of Undergraduate Researchers for a given academic year is always at 11:59 pm ET on the first day of the undergraduate reading period for the Spring semester of that academic year. See the Duke Academic Calendar for the exact date.
