The Department of Statistical Science places a very high emphasis on career and professional development. We collaborate closely with the Duke Career Center and offer in-house assistance with resume writing, interview, communication, and presentation skills. Additionally, potential employers and alumni specifically visit the department to offer information sessions, networking opportunities and recruitment activities. There are numerous career events throughout the Fall and Spring semester hosted by the department and the career center, including MSS alumni dinner, MSS industry day (over 10 potential employers), MS and PhD graduate career fair (hosted by career center), Data Science industry day (hosted by career center), graduate engineering and technology fair (hosted by graduate school), and specific networking and recruiting events in the MSS Proseminar course, among others.

We support broad engagement with the campus community through data dialogues, invited industry discussions, data fest competition, and other projects to allow our students to explore the world of statistics and data science and understand the challenges associated with translating data into application.

Our students can follow diverse career paths including Research/PhD at well renowned universities or working with the industry, government or non-government organizations in various job roles.
