Duke Graduate Programs Get High Marks in 2022 US News Rankings

Graduate and professional programs across the university scored highly in U.S. News and World Report’s list of “2023 Best Graduate Schools.”

The Duke University School of Nursing ranked second overall in the country. In addition, several MSN Nurse Practitioner specialty programs were highly ranked:

• Family (first)
• Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (first)
• Nursing Administration (first)
• Psychiatric/Mental Health Across the Life Span (first)
• Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (second)

Duke was ranked second among Doctor of Nursing (DNP) programs, including first for the DNP Executive Leadership Specialty.

“The U.S. News rankings are an external measure of Duke School of Nursing’s leadership and contribution to nursing and nursing education,” said Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, dean of the School of Nursing, and vice chancellor for nursing affairs. “They’re a key indicator that our peers in the nursing community acknowledge the ways our students, faculty, staff, and alumni are transforming the future of health care.”

Duke University School of Medicine ranked No. 6 for research among 124 medical schools nationally. In addition to the overall research rating, seven specialty programs in the School of Medicine placed in the top 10:

• Anesthesiology (third)
• Surgery (third)
• Internal Medicine (fifth)
• Radiology (sixth)
• Obstetrics and Gynecology (eighth)
• Pediatrics (tied for eighth)
• Psychiatry (tied for ninth)

“Year after year, Duke is recognized as a national leader in patient care, discovery, and training and education,” said Dr. Mary E. Klotman, dean of the School of Medicine. “This accomplishment must be attributed to the seminal achievements of our outstanding faculty and physicians, staff, and students. Earlier this year, Duke University School of Medicine placed third nationally among academic medical centers in federal funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in a separate ranking by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. 

Here’s where the magazine ranked other graduate and professional programs at Duke:

The School of Law ranked 11th overall. Among specialty programs:

• Business-corporate law (tied for 14th)
• Constitutional law (tied for 11th)
• Contracts and commercial law (tied for 16th)
• Criminal law (tied for 14th)
• Environmental law (tied for 17th)
• Intellectual property law (tied for 12th)
• International law (tied for 12th)

The Fuqua School of Business ranked 12th overall.  Among specialty programs:

• Business Analytics (tied for 10th)
• Executive MBA (eighth)
• Finance (11th)
• Management (tied for ninth)
• Marketing (fifth)
• Nonprofit (eighth)

 

Sanford School of Public Policy had several specialty programs ranked:

• Environmental policy (third)
• Health policy (tied for ninth)
• Public policy analysis (fifth)
• Social policy (fifth)

 

The Pratt School of Engineering ranked 24th overall. Among specialty programs:

• Biomedical engineering (seventh)
• Civil engineering (tied for 25th)
• Computer engineering (19)
• Electrical engineering (tied for 25th)
• Environmental engineering (tied for 11th)
• Material sciences (tied for 27th)
• Mechanical engineering (tied for 26th)
