Alumna Kate Calder Recognized with ASA Founders Award

Kate Calder

The American Statistical Association (ASA) selected Dr. Kate Calder, Professor and Chair of Statistics and Data Sciences at UT-Austin, as one of 5 recipients of its 2025 Founders Award. She received both her MS (2021) and PhD (2023) at Duke and conducts research in spatial and spatio-temporal statistics, Bayesian modeling and computation, multivariate data, and network and relational data analysis. 

The Founders Award recognizes members who have rendered distinguished service to the association.  Dr. Calder has provided extensive service to the ASA, including as a member of the Board of Directors. She was previously elected a Fellow of the ASA in 2014 and won the Outstanding Section Service Award in 2022.  She has chaired numerous committees including most recently the Committee on Funded Research, and she has provided extensive service to multiple ASA sections. She has also provided extensive professional service to other national and international organizations.

Dr. Calder joins a distinguished list of prior recipients from Duke, including former Professor and Chair Dalene Stangl (2019), Professor of the Practice David Banks (2015), and the late Professor Emeritus Jerry Sacks (1998).
