Machine Learning Metamorphosis: Breaking Models Out from your Local Machine and Releasing them into the Cloud

Wednesday, February 1, -

Dr. Zachary Abzug, Manager, Vectra AI and Daniel Salo, Manager, Proofpoint

Have you ever trained a perfect classification model on the Iris dataset on your laptop in eight lines of code and wondered if there was so much more to machine learning? Machine learning practitioners in industry face many challenges beyond the textbook such as changing data schemas, shifting data distributions, data security at rest, model reproducibility and versioning,  model interpretability, and deployment monitoring and scaling. The tool sets available in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP are increasingly helpful in addressing these growing problem areas. In this seminar, Zack and Dan will walk through various concepts related to machine learning in production and highlight how cloud platforms are an essential part of the landscape.

Speaker Bios:

Zack Abzug is a Data Science Manager at Vectra AI, a leader in cyber threat detection and response for network and multi-cloud environments. He has 5 years of experience integrating machine learning and cybersecurity to keep people and data safer from malicious adversaries. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroengineering from Duke University. In his spare time, he enjoys frequenting the Durham Farmers’ Market and local restaurants and breweries, playing soccer, and spending time with his family and friends.

Dan Salo is a Data Science Manager at Proofpoint, a global cybersecurity company. He manages a team of software engineers and data scientists working to detect cyber threats and compliance violations in social media streams and in cloud storage. He holds engineering degrees from Duke University and NC State University. When he’s not on a Zoom call, you can often find him spending time outside with his wife and kids or playing basketball with friends.
