84.51° is a retail data science, insights and media company strategically aligned with Kroger, and many of our research problems are driven by Kroger needs. This often comes down to three core capabilities - Forecasting (of various business quantities), Optimization (of business processes) and Measurement (of business performance), with a distinction between shorter- and longer- term efforts. Data Science plays a critical role in all solving all these challenges. In this talk we will look at several projects to explore what the research in these areas look like at 84.51°. This will highlight some of the technologies we employ, the challenges we face, and what role Data Scientists play in this process.

Christoph Hellmayr works as a Scientific Research at 84.51°. Part of the Science function at 84.51° since 2018, he focuses mostly on research in sales forecasting at large scales inside the Forecasting Center of Excellence. Additionally, he spends some of his time collaborating on other Science projects, and is involved in the Causal Inference Special Interest Group and the Geospatial Analysis group. Christoph has a B.A. in Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin, an M.Phil. in Computational Biology from the University of Cambridge, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Statistical Science from Duke University.
