"It gave me strong methodological and technical tools needed to understand, develop, and validate all types of statistical models. It also gave me the curiosity and drive to go out and learn more on my own, given that there are so many areas and fields to learn. It exposed me to passionate professors and students, all of whom are driven by more than money, but a love for the field and the science behind what they do."
"Do a research project with a Professor. These are some of the top professors in Bayesian statistics in the world, and you will never again get an opportunity like that. Ensure that this project (or a parallel project) involves a decent amount of work with a real world dataset, since real world data science is very different from academic modeling, as the data is messier, problems are vaguer, and insights more important. Finally, connect with alumni across a variety of industries to learn about how they apply statistical modeling to their jobs, since there are many paths one can take from the Duke Stat Sci program."
