In certain cases, a student who will not continue on to PhD may be awarded a terminal MS degree in Statistical Science (MSS), representing completion of graduate studies in the department. Such a student must satisfy the MSS requirements. In these cases, the Statistical Science First Year Exam (FYE) serves as the completion exercise and passing the FYE at the Master's level also subsumes the MSS applied statistics experience requirement. Performance in the FYE must be judged by the graduate faculty of the department to be consistent with MS level achievement; the student will then pass the FYE at Master's level. Students must register intent to receive the MSS with the Graduate School.
