Scheduling Inspections in Reliability
Nov 30 1991
When a system is subject to random failures that can be detected only by costly inspections, it is important to choose inspection times so that late detection costs and inspection cots are balanced optimally. This paper is a review of some recent developments in teh methodology for solving inspection problems. Topics include fallible tests, replacement policies, delayed symptoms of failure, stand-by systems and Bayesian models. Areas worthy of further study are also indicated.
