Visiting Faculty Opening

The Department of Statistical Science at Duke University invites applications for a Visiting Faculty position to begin in Fall 2016. Preference will be given to candidates whose core statistical science research interests are complemented by collaborative research interests in computer science, neurosciences, economics or finance, other areas of the social and policy sciences, among others. We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrated experience and strength in teaching.

The Department is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research and education in the development and application of contemporary statistical methodology. Particular emphasis is directed toward Bayesian modeling in many scientific fields as well as computationally intensive methods. The Department offers outstanding computational facilities and opportunities for interdisciplinary research. We currently have 21 regular rank faculty, another 14 visiting, adjunct, and postdoctoral faculty, and over 100 graduate students. Beyond core research in statistical and computational sciences, we have many collaborative interactions with multiple Duke departments, institutes and centers, including the new Information Initiative at Duke (iiD). Complementary interactions involve long-standing associations with the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) and the National Institute of Statistical Science (NISS), located nearby in the Research Triangle Park.

Teaching activities come through our Statistical Science undergraduate major and both M.S. and Ph.D. level courses and mentoring. At the graduate level, our internationally recognized PhD program is complemented by our M.S. in Statistical Science and M.S. in Statistical and Economic Modeling.

All applicants should submit a letter, curriculum vitae, and letters from three references via the Academic Jobs Online site:https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7118. Enquiries can be emailed to search@stat.duke.edu. Application screening will begin on March 7, 2016, and the search will remain open until the positions are filled.
