Mike West, the Arts & Sciences Professor Emeritus of Statistics & Decision Sciences, and his past PhD advisees Raquel Prado (PhD '98) and Marco Ferreira (PhD '02), are the recipients of the DeGroot Prize of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA). The award was announced and presented at the ISBA World Meeting in Nagoya, Japan, on July 3rd 2026. Raquel Prado is Professor in the Department of Statistics at the Baskin School of Engineering, University of California at Santa Cruz. Marco Ferreira is Professor in the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech.
This biennial award recognizes a book “concerned with fundamental issues of statistical inference, decision theory and/or statistical applications”, and the winners are selected based on the “novelty, thoroughness, timeliness, and importance of their intellectual scope”. The 2025 DeGroot Prize, awarded in 2026, recognizes the 2021 book “Time Series: Modeling, Computation & Inference (2nd ed.)” by Raquel, Marco & Mike. The book is part of the Chapman & Hall/CRC Texts in Statistical Science series and its full text is available online to Duke readers from the Duke Library.
