"The StatSci program at Duke taught me to fully respect data and appreciate its power. As an engineer, I don't utilize many statistical techniques in my day to day. However, my experience at Duke taught me that any decisions I make should be backed up by unbiased data and that the numbers presented to me may not always be accurate or unbiased."
"It's never to early to plan ahead. When it comes to StatSci, choosing between careers in academia/research, consulting, or industry is one of the most important decisions you'll have to make. Working on a data team at a retail company, it's more important that my solutions be lightweight, scalable, and easy to explain than cutting edge or even as accurate as can be. My priorities would be very different, however, were I working in research. Think about what role(s) you want to pursue with your degree, and let that shape your educational experience."
