The Placement Exam Signup System
The Placement Exam Signup System (PESS) is an web-based application that allows staff to create and manage signups for the Department of Statistical Science undergraduate placement exams. Students are able to sign up for a placement exam and staff are able to track the signups and print rosters for use at the exam.
Access to PESS is controlled using the Duke NetID-based webauth system. Only users with an active Duke NetID are able to access the system.
Accessing the Placement Exam Signup System
PESS resides at http://riffraff.stat.duke.edu/pe_signup/
Administrative Access
DSS staff and faculty who have administrative rights in the Placement Exam Signup System may add, edit, delete and access the roster for existing exams. A link to the administration web page is available to you on the home page of the application.
Exam Status
Placement Exams have a status associated with them:
open:: Exam is available to the students for signup closed:: Exam is not shown to the students and is no longer available for signup
Adding an Exam
From the PESS Administration page:
- Click the 'Add a placement exam' link
- Enter the relevant data for the exam (time, location, number of seats available, exam status) and click the 'OK' button
This will create a new exam in the system that students can sign up for.
Editing an Exam
From the PESS Administration page:
- Click the 'Edit' button next to the exam you wish to change
- Make the needed changes
- Click the 'OK' button
Deleting an Exam
NOTICE: Be very careful with the delete button! It will immediately delete the examination, including all related signup information.
From the PESS Administration page:
- Click the 'Delete' button next to the exam you wish to remove.
Viewing/Printing the Roster for an Exam
From the PESS Administration page:
- Click the 'Roster' button next to the exam you want to see.
To print the roster, simply view it, then use the browser 'Print' command to print it out.
NOTE: I recommend that when you are about to print the final roster for an exam, that you first edit the exam and change its status to 'closed' so that students can no longer sign up for it. Then print out the roster.
