EPD

EPD is a custom distribution of the Python programming language specializing in mathematical computation. We have EPD Free version 7.2-2 installed, which comes with Python 2.7.3 and the following packages, among others:

  • casuarius
  • chaco
  • cloud
  • idle
  • ipython
  • jinja2
  • matplotlib
  • numpy
  • PIL
  • ply
  • pyaudio
  • pyface
  • pyglet
  • Pygments
  • scipy

Using EPD

EPD is installed in /opt/EPD_Free on our Scientific Linux 6 workstations. To access it you must add the directory /opt/EPD_Free/bin to the front of your PATH variable in your environment.

TCSH shell users:

In a terminal window run the command: setenv PATH /opt/EPD_Free/bin:$PATH

BASH shell users:

In a terminal window run the command: PATH=/opt/EPD_Free/bin:$PATH

This will add the bin directory for EPD to the front of your PATH and give the EPD Python and other commands preference when you run commands in that terminal.
