The Department of Statistical Science proudly announces the first annual DataFest! DataFest is a team competition where you and your friends will be analyzing a large and complex dataset over one weekend. The event is open to undergraduates from all disciplines, but we recommend that each team has at least one student who is good at data wrangling.
DataFest 2012 starts Friday, April 13, 2012 at 5pm and will be over by 5pm on Sunday, April 15, 2012. On Friday we will start with a reception where the surprise client will give a brief introduction to the data and what they would like to get out of it. Throughout the weekend the participants will shape and work on answering their research question (and we will provide free food to keep them going!). At the end of the event each team will give a brief presentation of their findings and a panel of judges will pick the winners. The final presentations will begin at 3pm on Sunday, April 15, 2012 and will be held at Social Sciences 126, and all are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
