Established as the Institute of Statistics & Decision Sciences (ISDS) in 1987, the Department is nationally ranked in the top 5 research departments and as a top 10 graduate program. Renaming as the Department of Statistical Science in 2007 coincided with the establishment of a research-connected undergraduate major to add to the department's growth and vitality as the world's leading Bayesian center. That growth is partly reflected in the current 18 faculty, 35-40 graduate students, 10-20 research-active undergraduate majors, numerous postdocs, vistors and affiliated researchers. On the 25th anniversary of the Duke Trustee's founding of the department, it is time to celebrate our accomplishments!

We are hosting this celebration on Oct 19 and 20, 2012 on the Duke Campus. We plan a program with a full day of talks on the Friday (with a poster session on Friday night), half a day on Saturday, with Saturday afternoon free, and a party on the Saturday night. The conference itself will be held on campus in the Bryan Center and we have booked blocks of rooms for attendees at the Washington Duke Inn and at the Thomas Center. The poster session and the Saturday night party will be held at the Faculty Commons.

We anticipate the entire event to be an informal gathering, an opportunity to catch up with friends, to revisit the campus and the Department. For all of the many alumni, past visitors, and friends, we hope you will be able to come and celebrate this memorable event with us!
